Please note that delegates will only be able to attend three workshops. Although we will endeavour to give everybody their first choices for workshops, this might not be possible in all cases.
Facilitator: David Lynch, National Energy Action (NEA) and Cliff Duff, Durham County Council
This workshop will provide a brief update on Green Deal and ECO inviting participants to present their views forward for discussion. NEA will also provide feedback based on its consultation with stakeholders and householders as we make the transition to the new Green Deal and ECO environment. NEA is also launching a ‘Green Deal/ECO Pilot’ in partnership with Durham County Council which we would like to highlight during this workshop!
Facilitator: Paul Maplethorpe, East Pennine CAN & Rotherham Council and Andy Clixby, Project Manager, SIG management
Local Government has set out their vision for a new future and a new identity for the Dearne Valley in South Yorkshire as the first Eco Park in the UK. This proposals would see the Dearne Valley acting as a pioneer in the region, aiming to reduce the community's CO2 emissions to enable it to become the lowest carbon community of its type in the UK. with the local authority in order to ensure that this vision can become a reality. As part of the vision for the region, an initiative was launched in Brampton Bierlow Rotherham using a local community centre as a demonstrator property for energy efficiency measures to demonstrate what will be required to achieve this goal.
Facilitator: Fern Leathers - Senior Policy Adviser, Department of Energy & Climate Change
An opportunity to discuss the findings of the review and the practical application of the framework for measuring fuel poverty put forward in the final report.
Facilitator: Jackie Williams and Kaye Welfare, Severn Wye Energy Agency
With local authority budgets getting increasingly tight over the last few years work on sustainable energy and carbon emissions reduction can get squeezed out in favour of statutory commitments. However, significant long term cost saving and income generation opportunities can be lost this way, both for the authority, local citizens and businesses - don't let this happen in your area. The push from central government is as strong as ever with Feed in Tariffs and the Renewable Heat Incentive in place and the Green Deal imminent but there are increasing opportunities to look further afield for support - Europe. There are a wide range of EU support and funding streams that are available for local authorities in the UK that are trying to be greener - Intelligent Energy Europe, Interreg and the European Investment Bank to name a few. Severn Wye Energy Agency have a long history in accessing EU funding and working on transnational projects - join in a interesting and interactive workshop that discusses the different opportunities and shows how one particular initiative, the Covenant of Mayors, can offer a low cost, effective route to gaining access to these funding streams. 3,728 authorities across Europe have now signed up to the Covenant of Mayors - see www.eumayors.eu/index_en.html
Facilitator: Louise Sunderland, Association for the Conservation of Energy (ACE) & John Kolm-Murray, London CAN
Government has announced that HECA will be revitalised and a new HECA Guidance to Local Authorities is currently being drafted. This workshop is an opportunity to discuss the role HECA could play in helping Local Authorities to deliver housing energy efficiency and fuel poverty alleviation.
Please note that this is a draft list of workshops and is possibly subject to change.
Workshops can be prebooked by emailing the CAN Secretariat with your prefered choices. Workshop place will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Any delegates who have not pre-booked their workshops will be able to make a choice during registration on the day of the event providing one of the workshops is not already full. If this is the case, delegates will be allocated to the three workshops with space remaining. We recommend delegates who have a strong preference for their workshop to book in advance in order to avoid disappointment.
